Game Actual alcohol-related content ESRB rating ESRB content warning
NeverDead The main character repeatedly drinks hard liquor at a bar, on one occasion grabbing a bottle to take with him. In an optional sequence that can be repeated, he grabs beer from another character’s fridge. M Hey man, it don’t matter to Jesus.
Uncharted 3 The game opens with a scene set in a bar. Beer bottles actually get used as weapons. One scene involves the characters drinking in an apartment to toast their success. In another scene, a boy tries to take a drink of an adult’s beer. T Um… nothing to see here.
Professor Layton and the Last Specter One character is holding a bottle and may be soused. The characters visit a wine cellar. Some puzzles involve wine bottles. E10 Alcohol reference! Have you no sense of decency, Mr. Layton?

If alcohol references or alcohol use matter, then they matter in all games. If they don’t matter, why is this a content warning category?

  1. After seing This filmis not yet rated, I’ve realised that a lot of the “Censoring” and “Rating” doesn’t make sense at all in the movie industry.
I can only assume that it’s the same situation with games, which is sad.
